The company is a combination of five companies: Molecular Simulations (MSI, itself a result of the combination of Biodesign, Cambridge Molecular Design, Polygen and, later, Biocad and Biosym Technologies), SynopsysScientific Systems, Oxford Molecular, the Genetics ComputerGroup (GCG), and Synomics. In 2004, the company acquired SciTegic, the developer of Pipeline Pilot data pipelining and scientific workflow authoring software. In July 2010, Accelrys merged with Symyx Technologies. Subsequently, Accelrys extended its ELN capabilities through the acquisition of Contur Software AB in May 2011. The company broadened its process management and compliance capabilities through the acquisition of VelQuest Corporation in January 2012. Accelrys further expanded its capabilities in new product development and commercial manufacturing and quality operations through the acquisition of Colorado-based Aegis Analytical Corporation in October 2012. In January of 2013 Accelrys acquired Vialis AG, an informatics system integrator based in Liestal, Switzerland serving the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemicals and agro-science industries. In September 2013, Accelrys acquired ChemSW, an Environmental Health Safety (EHS) compliance solutions provider. This acquisition enabled Accelrys to provide CISPro solutions for managing and tracking the source, use and disposal of chemicals along the entire lab-to-plant value chain. In December 2013 Accelrys acquired QUMAS, a Cork Ireland-based company that focuses on controlled document management. This acquisition added targeted governance, risk management and compliance solutions to Accelrys portfolio. Went Public on February 27, 2004. The company was acquired by Dassault Systems in April 2014 for 750M.
