Craigslist is a classified advertisements website for jobs, consumer goods, services and discussion forums. It was founded by Craig Newmark in March 1995 as an email list site for San Francisco and Bay Area events. Soon after, it started jobs and product listings. Its revenue comes from charging for-profit employers for job postings. Its other classified ads are free and it also does not allow display advertising. In 2004, eBay purchased 25 stake in the company from a former employee. In 2008, eBay sued Craigslist, claiming that it diluted its stake in the company after which Craigslist filed a counter-suit in 2008, claiming that eBay used its minority stake to gain access to confidential information to source it to Kijiji (a subsidiary of eBay). So in 2015, eBay divested its stake back to Craigslist for an undisclosed amount to settle its litigation with the company.
