Alliance Protein Laboratories (APL) is a contract research firm offering biophysical characterization services, contract purification services and consulting services. The company was founded as a spinoff from Amgens protein chemistry department in 1998 and claims to have a clientele of 250 companies in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia as well as major universities and non-profit institutes. The company specializes in biochemical and biophysical characterization of proteins, nucleic acids, and other macromolecules such as viral vectors for gene therapy, protein-polymer conjugates, etc. APL claims that its scientists have pioneered the biophysical techniques in analytical ultracentrifugation (AUC) and concentration-gradient multi-angle light scattering (CG-MALS) which are not available in any other US contract lab. For characterization of protein conformation and stability they use techniques such as circular dichroism (CD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), fluorescence and native gels also.
