OpenCars Connect platform gives developers a set of APIs, tools and services to make apps that can work across a variety of vehicles from different automakers. OpenCar has built a free software development kit (SDK), an HTML framework for running apps in a car. Automakers and their integrators can use the OpenCar tools to build profiles that match each vehicles visual and functional interface design, hardware controls and voice interaction middleware. Developers can build apps on those profiles, which would then be placed in OpenCars online clearinghouse for third-party apps, where automakers will be able to browse for ideas they might include in future vehicles. OpenCar plans to make money by licensing its platform to automakers and by offering professional services to help them build their unique vehicle profiles.
